About Stress & Sleep

Social developments in the last 20 years has meant a significant change in the requirements of the individual, with a higher rate in working life and greater demands on the individual. The orientation of working life towards a governance with rather unclear objectives, but at the same time with high standards of individual responsibility and effort preparedness, removes the borders between work and private life. The result has been a strong development of stress-related illnesses including chronic fatigue syndrome, which has come to be a growing problem within an increasing number of professions.

The Institute's research

Stress Research Institute's main focus is stress and recovery in a broad sense and the research focuses on increasing the knowledge of mechanisms, countermeasures and treatments for various stress-related conditions. The long term goal of this research is to contribute to improved public health.

Results are spread to the public and clinicians

Stress Research Institute is purely a research institute, which means there is no patient reception. The Institute's researchers, however, are to some extent also clinicians, active for example at the Stress Research Clinic. The Institute also serves as coordinator for the "Swedish Stress Research Network" to facilitate that new knowledge in the field of stress and mental illness also is spread to clinical activities with patient reception.

The Institute annually publishes the research results in a number of original articles and scientific reviews, as well as a separate series of Stress Research Reports. Based on the results, popular scientific compilations are also spread through books and by the researchers being featured in the media. Stress Research Institute is also the host of a popular science theme day each spring for at Stockholm University.
